Windows 95/98 Keystrokes

The keystrokes in this first table should work from most Windows application (including Word Perfect and Microsoft Word)

Press F1 to see HELP
Press ALT+F4 to quit a program
Press SHIFT+F10 to see the shortcut menu
Press CTRL-ESC to bring up the START menu
Press ALT+TAB to cycle through all of the active windows
Press CTRL+X to cut to the clipboard
Press CTRL+C to copy to the clipboard
Press CTRL+V to paste from the clipboard
Press CTRL+A to select all
Press DEL to delete
Press CTRL+Z to undo the last thing you did
Press ALT+SPACEBAR to bring down the main window menu
Press SHIFT while inserting a CD-ROM to bypass the auto-play feature

The keystrokes in this second table should work from the desktop, My Computer, or Windows Explorer. Select the item first by single-clicking on it, then use the appropriate keystroke.

Press F2 to rename an item
Press F3 to find a folder or file
Press SHIFT+DEL to delete an item without placing it in the Recycle Bin
Press ALT+ENTER (or ALT+double click) to view the item's properties
Press CTRL while dragging a file to copy a file to a new location
Press CTRL+SHIFT while dragging a file to create a shortcut to the file in a new location
Press F5 to refresh the screen
Press BACKSPACE to go up one level (not applicable on the desktop)
Press SHIFT while clicking the Close button (the "x" in the upper right hand corner) to close the selected folder and all of its parent folders
Press F6 to switch between the left and right panes of My Computer or Windows Explorer
Press CTRL-G to go to a certain folder (for Windows Explorer only)
Press NUMLOCK+*(asterisk) to expand all subfolders under the selected folder in Windows Explorer
Press NUMLOCK+PLUS SIGN (+) or Press the RIGHT ARROW to expand the selected folder in Windows Explorer
Press NUMLOCK+MINUS SIGN (-) or Press the LEFT ARROW to collapse the selected folder in Windows Explorer

The keystrokes in this third table should work from the Properties Dialog Box

Press TAB to move forward through the options
Press SHIFT+TAB to move backwards through the options
Press CTRL+TAB to move forward through the tabs
Press CTRL+SHIFT+TAB to move backwards through the tabs
