You can use GroupWise WebAccess to send and receive
just about any type of computer file. You can send word processing files (WordPerfect,
Word, and Works), graphic files (GIFs, JPGs, and BMPs), sound files (WAVs), and even
little movies (MPGs, MOVs, and AVIs). These files that are sent along with your e-mail are
called "attachments".
[Note: but remember, you only have 50 MB worth of space on the GroupWise E-mail server.]
See Deleting E-mail for more information on GroupWise WebAccess and
storage space.
If you receive an e-mail, and the status
icon resembles a paper clip with an envelope, you have just received an e-mail with
an attachment. Click on the e-mail link to open the e-mail with the attachment
Once the e-mail is open, you will see the name and type of attachment
Sometimes, when you receive an attachment, you can click on the View link, and GroupWise will bring up the application that corresponds to that attachment.
Clicking on the view link may not work. A good way to handle attachments in GroupWise WebAccess is to save the attachment to disk (or the hard drive) and then pull up the needed application yourself. When viewing an e-mail with an attachment, click on the Save As link to save the attachment. Once the right application is up, you can just open the file as you normally would, by clicking on FILE on the menu bar, and then scrolling down to OPEN.

Start to compose an e-mail (just like usual).
Before you send the e-mail, click on the Attach icon on the menu bar.
This will bring up a dialog box that lets you to browse for the file you want to send. For
example, if you wanted to send a copy of your resume through e-mail, you'd choose drive A:
from the pulldown menu in the dialog box, and then select resume.wpd and click on the OPEN
button. Then click the OK button.

After you've finished the text of your message and attached the file, click send.
That's all there is to it (unless you get an error message .. in which case you should
write the message down and contact Grace Simms at glsimms@samford.edu or 726-2687)
Note: please be mindful of the SIZE of file that you send. Often times, e-mail servers
have a maximum size limit of files that they will receive. If you need to send a large
graphic, sound, or animation file, use WinZip (which is installed on all of the Law
Library Lab computers, under Accessories) to compress the file. Even after it's
compressed, try not to send any files over
1 MB in size.
