In December of 1997, Cumberland School of Law became a member of CALI: The

Copying Lessons:
From the lab computers, you can copy specific lessons to 1.44 MB
diskettes to be used on your home computer. To do this, double click on the CALI
icon. Once you are in the application, click on the CALI LESSONS link. Then click on the
COPY LESSONS link. A window will pop up that lets you choose the lesson you want to copy
(make sure the application is set to copy to the A:\ drive - which is the default). Click
on the COPY button, and it will
tell you how many blank diskettes you need to copy the lesson (and the mini-menu, which is
the user interface for the lessons).
You can also download the lessons from the web to your home
computer. Using a web browser, go to the
CALI homepage at http://www.cali.org.
From here, click on the For Law Students button , and then the Run or Download CALI Lessons link.
This will take you to the CALI Lessons Catalog page.
Clicking on a topic will take you to a description of each lesson. Notice, under the
description of each lesson is a series of up to three icons: Web, Win, or Mac.
 |
Click on the WEB icon if you want to run the lesson
directly from the web page |
 |
Click on the Win button if you want to download the
lesson to your Windows 95, 98, or XP computer. |
 |
Click on the Mac button to download the lesson to
your MacIntosh computer. |
Once you've clicked on one of the buttons, you will be taken to a form
to fill out, to grant you access to the file. Follow the instructions below to complete
the form:
Step One
Choose school from list: AL - Samford University Cumberland School
of Law
Step Two
Enter the school password: (note: since this is now on the web, the
password has been removed - the password will be e-mailed to you or put in your Law School
mailbox, if you contact Grace Simms -
you must be a currently enrolled student or faculty at Cumberland School of Law)
Step Three
Make sure the format for the lesson is correct (Web or Win or Mac)
Step Four
Read and click on the "I Accept" button at the
bottom of the license agreement
Step Five
The file you chose to download should be listed. It will also tell you how big the files
are and how long to expect the download process to last. You have to download each file
separately. What you are downloading is the lesson INSTALL
file (which means you have to execute the files in order to install the lessons on your
hard drive). Click on the folder icon next to the lesson install file you want to
download, and a SAVE AS screen will pop up. Choose the
directory you want to download the file into and click the SAVE
button.
Running Lessons:
Once the file has been downloaded. Go to the start button, and click on the RUN option. In the RUN box, type in the path to the lesson install
file. If you don't know the path, you can find the file by clicking on the BROWSE button. Clicking on the OK
button will install the lesson to your hard drive. The installation will place a folder in
your Start Menu called CALI.
If you do not want to download the lessons to your computer's hard drive, some of the
lessons can be run directly from the web WITHOUT having to download any software.
If you have any questions about CALI or any of the lessons, please contact Grace Simms,
Computer Services Librarian at 726-2687 or glsimms@samford.edu.
